Found More Stuff

Not as exciting as last time, but here's an old coral-encrusted metal file and two fragments of hand-blown glass bottles. There's got to be some whole ones left out there...

Old Plates

Today I followed some tips about where there might be some interesting things on the bottom- especially after 2 storms have mixed things up. What I found was a junkyard of old bottles, ballast stones, and unidentifiable chunks of metal. Among all this stuff I found two half plates.

The blue plate looks similar to one of the pieces of chaney we've found. There is no maker's mark on the bottom, so unless I can find a picture of something similar, there's no telling what I've got.
The red plate has half of a shipping company's logo- just enough to seem like it could be traceable.

I could be on to something...

Lionfish Invasion

Lionfish are getting to be more and more common around here. Last week a sweep of the pier yielded 28! We used to try to collect them for dissection and study, but lately we've been told to just chop them up and leave them on the bottom in the hope that some other creature will develop a taste for them.

The only good news is that they're still mostly too small to be cleaned and eaten by people- i.e. not yet big enough to breed here.

Doing my part.

Up From the Deep

The boat's up, the moon's out, and I'm covered in gas burns.
All in all a good day.

Otto

I heard this afternoon that we've gotten 18 inches of rain in the last 48 hours.

Fields are flooded.

And here are some of the waves crashing onto our usually placid west side.

They sunk the dive shop's boat.
