Barge

The day started with running errands and stopping by a beach on the south shore.

The wind has been blowing out of the south for a few days, so the rough water on the south side means flat seas on the north. That means that if we hop a few fences

and hike a couple of miles through the mangroves, we can go check out a shipwreck that's washed up near the beach!

We swam out and soon started finding wreckage

but no engines, props, or machinery other than some pumps and winches.
It's just an old barge.

We did manage to find some nice shells, though.

And on the way home we poked around some plantation ruins

and found a few more bits of chaney!

We plan to go search for more tomorrow.

Card Carrying Member

I went to the downtown library today.

It took me a while to find. The sign, although pretty, is a bit hard to read and see from the street.

After furnishing proof of my identity and two on-island "personal references", they gave me a card.

I love the library.

Rocky Shore

We went to the North Shore to take advantage of the flat calm seas to check out the shallows where the rocks are usually being pounded by waves.

We'll have to do that again.

Plan D

So in the morning we found out that the engine wouldn't be fixed any time soon, but as it turns out, the little Cape Dory that is for sale at the marina is our friend's other boat!

We packed up lunch and drinks and sailed off to Buck Island for the day!

Its a fantastic spot for snorkeling.

Blue water

with plenty to look at underneath.

In fact there were so many conchs we decided to grab one for a snack. We swam way out to find one that is not federally protected

and cut it out of the shell,

cleaned it and sliced off pieces to eat while still in the water.
Absolutely the best way to eat conch.

I could get used to this.

Ippo

This is Ippo- the vessel that was to take us away to St John for the weekend,

but it was not to be.

Plan B was to wait for a mechanic to fix it, sail over to Buck Island for a swim and a nap, then make a midnight crossing to arrive at STJ in the morning.
Plan B left plenty of time for daydreaming.

Further developments led to Plan C- follow the iguana tracks over to the marina bar for dinner and

Crab Races!

then leave at midnight for STJ.

We got to see the sun set from a new perspective as well as an International Space Station flyover!

Back to the boat to see what tomorrow brings...

Chicken Shack!!!

This morning we started out with a couple of day off dives.

Mostly to pass the time til lunch, cause we were heading over to the Chicken Shack!

The best chicken anywhere with 1/2 a chicken, a couple of johnnycakes, and a beer for $7!

I had to see where such delicious chickens come from, so I walked around back and found out.

Luckily they still have more.

Tonight I'm looking over charts.
Tomorrow morning we set sail for St John!

Fair winds and calm seas forecasted.
Dark & Stormy's predicted.
