Aegir Habitat

So 883 posts ago, I shared this picture in a post titled Space Junk.
It's actually the remains of the Aegir Habitat that was brought to St Croix from Hawaii to replace the Aquarius underwater habitat that was being moved to Florida. Apparently funding was lost and Aegir ended up being scuttled in the early 80's.
Tonight while trying to be quiet so as not to disturb Lisa's Dengue Fever induced napping, I found pictures
and even a diagram!

Markup

Everything costs more here since it has to be shipped.
But still, 28 cherrries for $5.64? Ouch!

West Wall

Over that edge there's an anchor 250ft down.
Only 7 people have seen it since it went overboard a long time ago.
I got to see it again today.

Speaking Of Tropical Bugs

Gasteracantha cancriformis has moved in to our backyard.
A 1912 text called The Spider Book noted: "A remarkable feature of the webs of this species is the frequent occurrence in them of series of flocculent tufts of silk attached to either the radii or to some of the foundation lines. These tufts are composed of a mass of fine threads, like those of which a stabilimentum is made."

Boat Parade 2012!

After an afternoon of draping christmas lights
 and the official Seaplane flyover
we shoved off of the already teeming boardwalk
to get to the staging area
for our first boat parade on a boat!
After a few laps around Protestant Cay
the fireworks started.
and so begins the Christmas cheer on St Croix
Smiling's her favorite.
