Ginip

Our friend Charlie has introduced us to the ginip tree.

You can tell it's a ginip because each bunch of leaves look like a moko jumbie

You bite into the tough skin of the little green fruit to reveal a gooey inside. There is a little bit of sweet meat which you suck on until only the seed is left.

It's very yummy!

Cloudy Sunset Bingo

We went out the other day for a cloudy edition of sunset bingo to feed Lisa's addiction.

Though she may look all pretty and nice, Lisa is all business when it comes to bingo.

And for those who don't heed the warning,

there's trouble.

I Have Always Believed

that money spent on education is money well spent.

Unless, maybe, that education leads to someday owning a boat.

Roadside Surprise

Living in the Caribbean, you get used to seeing livestock grazing by the road,

but this caught me off guard.

A Picture Saved For A Rainy Day

I figured this is better than a picture of the copious amounts of junk food we've devoured today while stuck inside watching movies..

Tropical Wave

The clouds of yesterday's sunset were the leading edge of our first tropical weather activity for the season.

We're currently just about centered under this big mess. The view's not nearly so colorful from underneath.

A few days ago there was talk that this might be the first named storm for 2010, but it never quite got its act together. We can use the rain, but maybe not all of it.

Tropical knitting

I've had to change my knitting style to adapt to the heat.
No more scarves that lay across my lap.

Our neighbor just had a baby, so they got a sailboat bib

and some soft fishy washcloths.

My sister-in-law is a big turtle fan,
so this guy's living in Virginia now.

Having fun making sea creatures -
seahorses

and jellyfish.

My new favorite coozie -
I call it the love pirate.

Run for it

Yesterday I put on my Vibram Five Fingers (a.k.a. my ugly shoes) and headed out to run 2 miles for the Women's Coalition of St. Croix

I hung out with some Moko Jumbies

This picture at the starting line might have been like "Where's Waldo" had I gotten the memo to wear the race t-shirt

Apparently I run at about the pace of the average woman pushing 2 small children.
But guess what?

I won!

Okay, not really.
But I did get to cool down in the best way possible.

Beach Hunt

After work we left civilization behind to hike along the shore because we had heard there was a little secluded beach not too far away.

We found plenty of urchin shells and tiny fish in tidal pools,

then we saw the beach.

The waves were up and there was no way across without getting really wet, so we decided to try to find a trail down from the road.

This wasn't the right beach,

but is certainly nice in its own way.

We gave up on finding the little beach today and opted for one straight off the postcards.

We should all have such hard decisions to make.
